A client from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, asked me to make a statue of a man wearing “Zoot Suit” which was very popular back in the 1940s. His father had the gift of foresight and was not afraid to embrace the exaggerated (rather ridiculous looking at the time) fashion style and quickly adapted his tailoring business to create the hit item. The gentleman wanted the piece in glass in memory of his dad.

We worked very closely together on the intricate details of the suit as he was the expert and I was nowhere near it. Honestly, it was not easy exchanging hundreds of emails -every stripes, the width of the cuffs, the hat and even the height of collars were important for him as distinct as the style was.  The tremendous love and respect I sensed in his writing was what made it possible to finish the piece. After reading the whole history about the suit and his father’s business, I definitely felt more than just a fulfillment of completing the difficult piece, but a great esteem for the history of the family.
