I have had so many great moments with wonderful collectors.

One was the very first time I was invited to be in the Habatat Invitational in 2010.  It was a very big deal for me just to be in the Invitational and to see Habatat Gallery for the first time.  I had been looking enviously at the giant black booth at SOFA Chicago for years.

I sent two pieces.  One a smaller woman standing on the edge of a block, skirts waving, called Wind. The second was a large yellow woman with her hands on her hips and a definite attitude.  The entire Invitational experience was a bit over whelming.  Wining, dining, talks, gorgeous homes with great glass collections, many new people and some familiar faces.   I believe it was finally the night of the opening and I was standing near my work.   There was a pair of very cosmopolitan busy women breezing through the show, when one of them breezed up to me and said she was really drawn to the yellow woman with the attitude.  The next thing I knew she had bought it.

The best part is that she was Ann Drake.  Every year after that at the Invitational I would see her.  She was never there for long and she knew exactly what she wanted to buy.

In 2016 I started showing with Habatat in the” big black booth” at SOFA Chicago. I think it was that year I was invited to a party on Saturday Night after SOFA closed and it was at Ann Drake’s.  She has a stunning pair of apartments high up in the towers sitting at the edge of the lake with wrap around windows looking out. And there was the big yellow woman with the attitude.  It’s a perfect setting for her and I love it that she is owned by such a powerful woman who is a truly nice and generous person.

She throws a great party every year on Saturday after SOFA.  She gives us all a chance to relax and talk with artists and collectors in a gorgeous setting with delicious food and wine.
