I had a very memorable interaction with a couple early in my glass career.  I was participating in one of my first shows at the Glass Weekend event at Wheaton Village, NJ.  I was tremendously excited about showing off my quirky new work, which I felt was unlike anything I’d seen in glass.  As the show opened, people began milling about and circulating through the space.  I fully expected people to be drawn towards my work like a magnet.  That did not happen. (I was raised by a mother who jumped up and down and told me how incredible my art was) The room was full of beautiful work that was vying for the viewer’s attention.

Eventually a collector stopped in to look at my work.  He wanted to meet me and talk about the work.  “Have people been stopping to check this out?”, he asked.  “This work has such a great sense of humor and is so elegant!”, he said.  He went and got his wife.  They talked to me at length about the different pieces and eventually made, what turned out to be, my first sale.  It felt wonderful to have my vision validated.  I realized that not everyone would respond to my work, but that was not important.  It would resonate with the people it was meant to, and for that, I was grateful.
