I started a series of work in the late eighties called the Relationship series. They were these pieces, hourglass in form and made up of three elements. Two of the forms were relatively equal in size and shape like a champagne glass with the stem of the glass coming together to embrace an vase shape form that would become the central form of the piece both visually and metaphorically!

I was showing a grouping of these at a gallery in Florida which had the three pieces in the window. Each piece was monochromatic in primary colors, one red, one blue, one yellow. A couple( not glass collectors at this time), saw the grouping and ended purchasing the yellow piece. When they got the piece home the gentleman realized that it was the grouping of three pieces that attracted him to the work and that he’d made a mistake in not purchasing the grouping. He returned to buy the remaining two pieces which had been sold in the meantime. The couple ended up commissioning me to make the replacement pieces to complete the trio.

This couple has gone on to amass one of the finest collections anywhere, hundreds of pieces of contemporary glass by artists from all over the world make up their collection. To this day the gentleman blames/gives me credit for their life long journey into collecting glass! They’ve become close friends and continue to collect, not only my work but the work of many others!

Truly feel blessed to have the support and love of such wonderful people!
