The “Mazorca” series didn’t start out being about corn. It started out with my fascination with suspended objects. It has to do with adornment. If you’ve done any traveling you see areas where there are suspended objects- tools, farm equipment, food. What is hanging there? How long has it been there? How did they hang it up? How do they tie it? Why is it there? That was the idea for the series.

I started making hanging collections. As I moved through the world, I started to see things that resonated with that concept. Walking through a market, if I saw peppers hanging, I saw them in a whole new light, because I was in tune with the idea, the quality of hanging objects. That’s all I need to start and then it begins to fill in and narrow itself down. The idea takes shape, but it always starts out kind of vague. That’s how it goes with everything. It’s not this brilliant inceptions of this great idea that springs forth like a full grown Zeus.- William Morris.
