Over the past 8 years I’ve had a wonderful NYC collector who’s been a big fan of my work, purchasing one or two of my sculptures each year. She first discovered my work in a local Vermont museum exhibit, and purchased a couple of my sculptures from that show. From then on, she would email me at least once a year, asking about the availability of some of my other pieces she had discovered on my website, and I would ship them to her and she has loved every piece she purchased.
\This past October, she came to visit my Vermont studio for the first time, to pick up one of the pieces she had recently commissioned from me. It was so nice finally meeting her and getting to know her during her visit to my studio. She told me that the piece she was purchasing, my ‘Two Eggplants Still-Life’ wall sculpture was a surprise Christmas gift for her husband who had been battling cancer for the past year. She then told me several of the other pieces she had purchased from me over the past 8 years were also gifts for him, and that he’s a big fan of my work too. During our conversations she also told me that she happens to be a pretty well known Broadway Playwright, (she’s written dozens of plays, some more well known than others) and we talked about the similarities of our creative artistic careers and about the ups and downs of juggling family life along with it. We talked about some of her recent plays on Broadway, and it was fun getting to know this wonderful client of mine.
A few days later, I received an email from her husband asking about a couple of pieces she had seen in my studio during her recent visit. He told me he wanted to purchase them and surprise her with them for Christmas. I thought to myself, how cool is this, that both husband and wife have each purchased my glass sculptures as surprise gifts for one another for Christmas. They both really enjoyed each others surprise gifts.
