What is truly wonderful, for me, about the Collector/Artist relationship is when the collector really loves your work and when they commission you for something that you want to make.

I loved it when Simona and Jerry Chazen asked the Metropolitan Museum to go pick out a work of mine because they didn’t want to give the museum the one they had,  saying that it took them so long to get it from me!

Jane Adlin came to my studio and picked out a bunch of pieces she liked, then took the transparencies back to be approved by the rest of the MET’s curators. Simona and Jerry gave a party to celebrate the opening of the glass show at the Museum. They had wonderful food and some of the artist’s and I stood by the kitchen door to eat it as it came out.  One of the servers said, “is this what they mean by starving artist?”

For me, getting a work into the Metropolitan was a highlight of my whole career, and one I’m forever grateful to the Chazens for making happen.
