I see liuli glass and sculpting as an art form similar to performance in the movies, but the difference lies in my own voice.
I was an actress for over a decade before my journey into and exploration of pâte de verre. Each film was unique in its storytelling, and, through interpreting multiple roles, I experienced a variety of lives, which got me thinking: “what is my own story?” Since then, I’ve been enthusiastically searching for the answer and saw a pâte de verre glass sculpture from the 19th century. The intricacy of the glass medium and the technique of pâte de verre fascinate me.
Among all subjects, flowers are dear to my heart. For me, the flower is a representation of the state of life. It is an exploration of a life that is beautiful yet fragile, eternal yet impermanent. I use naturalistic colors and a surreal flower size to challenge the restraints of pâte-de-verre, and more importantly, to present my wish for a peaceful world. A new reality that is dependent on the fragile nature of the liuli glass medium – this is a metaphor for the humility and compassion in
life.

Liuli glass is the embodiment of spirit, life, philosophy and passion. During this time of adversity, I hope my works can bring forth a light of hope and benevolence.
